Oil changes
How often to change your oil
Your owner's manual
Your owner's manual sets the oil change schedule for your vehicle. Many newer vehicles also have an oil-life monitor that tells you when an oil change is due, based on how the vehicle is being driven.
Harder driving
Some driving is harder on your oil, so it needs changing more often. That includes lots of short trips, very hot, cold or dusty conditions, a lot of stop-and-go traffic, and heavy loads or towing.
Low mileage
If you don't drive much, the oil still needs changing at least once a year.
Oil level and grade
It's worth checking your oil level about once a month. Whenever oil is added or changed, use the grade your owner's manual calls for. For example, using 10W-30 in an engine designed for 5W-30 can lower fuel economy by 1 to 2 percent.

Questions
Oil change and maintenance questions
How often should I change my oil?
Follow the schedule in your owner's manual, or your vehicle's oil-life monitor if it has one. Lots of short trips, very hot, cold or dusty conditions, stop-and-go traffic, heavy loads and towing can all mean changing it sooner. Even if you drive very little, change it at least once a year.
I don't drive much. Is maintenance due by distance or by time?
Both. Maintenance comes due at the distance or the time in your schedule, whichever comes first. Oil should be changed at least once a year even if you drive very little.
Will servicing my new vehicle here affect my warranty?
We are a provincially licensed automotive repair and inspection facility. You can have your new vehicle serviced and maintained at our shop.
